Watersports
You can do just about any type of water sports you could dream of - windsurfing, wakeboarding, sailing, jet skis and inflatables to name a few directly from Praia da Luz beach in front of the apartments. The best part is that you can book everything at the reception. Enjoy being towed behind a jet boat in a ringo, a flying fish or on a banana boat. Great fun for the whole family.
You can also hire a hobiecat catamaran for exhilarating sailing, especially when the wind is blowing from the north as there are hardly any waves to slow you down.
Jet skis, pedal boats and kayaks can also be rented directly on the beach.
Coasteering is a physical activity that involves swimming, climbing, and jumping along the rocky coastline between the tides near Praia da Luz. This sport is done on foot or by swimming with an experienced guide but without the help of boats. Guide, wetsuits and helmets are provided and included in the price. This fun activity is very popular with teenagers and is a great way to see the coast from a very different perspective! Please ask at reception for more information.
Kite surfing, deep sea fishing, PADI scuba diving and RYA boat licenses
Kite Surfing: Alvor Lagoon, one of Europe's top kitesurfing spots, is just a 20-minute drive from the Luz Beach Apartments. There is a well known kitesurfing school there and beginners as well as advanced kitesurfers are welcome. Do not hesitate to ask us for more information. We can organize equipment rental, lessons and transportation. Classes must be booked in advance.
Scuba Diving: There are several dive sites around the rocks surrounding Praia da Luz, including an old wreck, which makes for a thrilling sight. There are several diving schools in Lagos. Take a 3 day course and get your PADI Open Water Diver License instead !!!
Surfing:
Portugal has become the capital of surfing. The largest wave in the world was surfed on the West Coast of Portugal. The big advantage is that you can surf on the South or West coast depending on where the waves are best. Equipment rental, lessons and transport can all be arranged at the reception. Deep Sea Fishing: Enjoy an outing from the port of Lagos (just 15 minutes by car) and go big game fishing. Reservations must be made in advance and we can do this for you at reception.
Sailboat and motor boat rentals, RYA courses and licenses
It is possible to hire speedboats, crewed yachts and bareboat yachts in Lagos Marina for a half day or a full day. Please ask at reception for details.
If you want something special to do or don't have a license why not take the RYA Power Boating or Sailing Course in the waters around Praia da Luz and Lagos?
Courses range from “VHF Radio” and “RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Course” to “Competent Crew” and sailing technique courses. You can do the theory part (if applicable) in advance and then do your practical when you are here on vacation.
There is an excellent sailing school in Lagos, just a 15 minute drive away.
